Watching Popin Cookin videos on YouTube are terribly entertaining. Nobody can ever explain why these are so fascinating and satisfying to watch. After countless videos, I wanted to try them for myself. Partly because I wanted to see if Shane Dawson's reactions are exaggerated or not. I ordered a ton of them off Amazon. Today, we tried the Hamburger one. Also, sorry the pictures are not the best, I had to use artificial lighting.
All of the directions are in Japanese so it was difficult to follow the directions. For instance, I thought the bread was the french fries and mixed them in the wrong compartments. It ended up okay, but I lost a lot of the bread "paste" or whatever because it got suck in the groves of the french fry compartment.
I wasn't able to get the bread neatly in the small mold which resulted in very uneven and messy hamburger buns. The hamburger "meat" smelt very much like a microwavable burger, and not the ones that are okay. The french fries smelt like potatoes. The bread smelt like cheese... Kind of scary.
The soda was super cute and fizzed when mixed with water. It was definitely the most edible part of this "meal." While mixing the ketchup together, I felt a bit sick because of how sweet it smelt. Presentation wise, I think it came out okay. You can totally tell it is a little hamburger meal. I took a bite of the french fries and they tasted kind of sweet, but weren't terrible. I tried one with the smallest amount of the ketchup and that was so gross. Lastly, I hesitantly took a bite from the hamburger. 0/10. Do not recommend. Disgusting. Shane Dawson was not lying during his reaction video. I wish I could describe it to you, but it just tasted bad. It tasted a little bit like nothing, mixed with something, mixed with weird meat, mixed with sweet ketchup and weird powdered cheese. It was not good. I didn't even eat the entire mini burger. I threw it out!
Overall, this was still a fun experience even though I did not like the meal at all. I bought a variety set of Popin Cookins and most of them are sweet, so hopefully those end up being successful. I will definitely post my critique and more photos of other Popin Cookins that I try.
